Jeddah Municipality hosts the cleanliness directors-general workshop on waste management efficiency and performance contracts

Jeddah Municipality — represented by its Projects Agency and the General Department of Cleanliness Projects — hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing alongside cleanliness directors-general from municipalities across the Kingdom, in a field programme built to exchange expertise, raise waste management efficiency, and advance municipal services.

A guided tour of the environmental treatment facilities

The programme included a site visit to the Environmental Treatment Centre in Jeddah Governorate, where participants saw the centre's integrated operation end to end: the sorting station, the tyre recycling plant, the incineration unit, the biogas project, and the administration building. The tour showed how far the governorate's treatment facilities have come operationally, and the part they play in supporting environmental sustainability and getting more out of every resource.

A workshop that brought the sector's specialists together

The workshop opened with a welcome address by Eng. Abdulkarim Al-Sheikhi, Director of Partnerships and Environmental Investment Development, who underlined how much sustainable waste management solutions depend on municipal bodies and the private sector working as one.

Eng. Mohammed Atiyatallah Al-Sulami, Director of the Environmental Treatment Centre, then walked through Jeddah Municipality's experience in environmental treatment — the centre's components, how it is operated, and the gains made in operational efficiency, urban development, and the quality of service residents receive.

Sustainability Solutions Company for Environmental Services leads the development of the construction & demolition waste sector

Sustainability Solutions Company for Environmental Services (Eco Sol) delivered a dedicated presentation by Eng. Amjad Mohammed Fallatah, Business Development Director, covering the company's founding in 2022 as a strategic partnership between the Saudi Investment Recycling Company, represented by AKAM, and Jeddah Municipality, represented by the Jeddah Development and Urban Regeneration Company.

The presentation focused on the company's pivotal role in supporting environmental sustainability and circular economy targets, alongside its strategy and the sectors it is developing within Jeddah Governorate's waste management system. Particular attention went to its work organising and developing the construction & demolition waste sector — integrated solutions to treat, recycle, and recover value from that waste, cutting the volumes sent to landfill, raising the diversion rate, and making infrastructure and urban development projects across the governorate more efficient to manage.

The presentation closed on the weight strategic partnerships and innovation carry in developing this sector, in support of Saudi Vision 2030's targets for environmental sustainability, higher recycling rates, and quality of life.

Performance contracts and an exchange of experience

Eng. Saeed Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, Director of Cleanliness Projects, presented the performance contracts in force at Jeddah Municipality: the results achieved so far, the performance indicators behind them, and the mechanisms used to improve quality and operational efficiency in service of better delivery and best operational practice.

An open discussion between municipality representatives followed, working through the operational challenges each faces and trading approaches that have worked — institutional cooperation aimed at raising municipal performance and aligning effort across the Kingdom.

Closing the programme

The visit closed with Jeddah Municipality honouring the participants and guests, and a group photograph marking an occasion that gathered a cross-section of municipal leadership. The programme continues the municipality's commitment to developing cleanliness and waste management, widening the exchange of expertise, and adopting the innovations that build more sustainable cities with a better quality of life.
